Bio :
Researching a PhD at QMUL: a non-fiction novel centred on a relative’s experiences of high-security psychiatric institutions (Broadmoor, Ashworth, Rampton) in England from 1972-2002. My work combines social histories and theoretical analysis of life in psychiatric carceral institutions and explores experiences of mental distress in the context of inter-generational trauma, working class and queer lives. I am interested in what gets repeated once people are detained, the ways people find to survive inside, and the implications this might have for how society responds to people who commit harm.
