Bio :
After a brief early career as a clinical psychologist in the British National Health Service, Barry was an academic at the University of East London, and then at Bournemouth University, where he is now Emeritus Professor of Political Psychology. Amongst his books are Disciplines of Delight: the Psychoanalysis of Popular Culture (Free Association Books, 1994), Emotional Governance (Palgrave, 2007), What Holds Us Together (Karnac, 2018), and The Psychology of Politics (Routledge, 2019). His work has centred on bringing psychoanalytic insights into the study of politics, especially in relation to the future of liberal democracy.
